my face hurt from smiling so much in the theater! this was so silly and entertaining! and this cast?! it was like they hand picked half the ensemble just for me. you put buffy summers, alex romero, lisa swallows, and jack abott in a movie? of course I'm going to watch that... not once, not twice, but three seperate times in the movie theater and then again at home. funny, bloody, and just batcrap crazy.
such a joy to see these guys back on my screen! especially in a special that maintains the integrity of the original show!
movie so good it made the two friends I saw it with want to pursue astrophysics
i wasn't obsessed. maybe that's because they did this plot multiple times on buffy the vampire slayer and it felt vaguely familiar? maybe that's because i saw it after two months of hype and people saying it was one of the best horror movies they've ever seen? i'm not sure which, but it just wasn't a hit with me like it was for others.
as someone who has read woman of tomorrow, this kind of wasn't woman of tomorrow. however, i think it is very important to have female superheroes get standalone movies that aren't just bottling that statement that 'being a girl is a superpower!' and selling it as the peak of feminism. aside from the 'why is he a man and you're a girl?' exchange, this movie doesn't really hash out the typical one liners as other female led superhero movies, which i think is important for the younger generations watching. it's unnecessary to say 'wow you did that! and you're a girl!', we can just say 'wow you did that!'. kara is cool, not cool for a girl, just cool and just as strong as her cousin. it's no birds of prey, but it's a pretty good time.
