Steve
This film really shows you don’t know what anybody’s going through. Steve was one of the people with the most pressure from his students and coworkers and it led to him cracking.
The whole tape monologue with him talking about his students was so pure, you can tell Steve sees himself in his students a lot, probably why he gives them so many chances and has the patience for them even when they’re acting insane.
I don’t think Steve or Shy committed suicide in the end. I feel like Shy throwing rocks at the glass was his way of letting his frustration out instead of killing himself. He was a really deep person, Steve was right to say that when he explained his troubles you could really understand, mainly because they’re the same person.
But whilst Shy was working towards getting better at the end of the film, Steve got worse he was just better at hiding it. To me, him going into the attic at the end symbolised him indulging in the destructive behaviours that led to him killing the girl in the car crash, in a hidden place because he feels guilty hiding his issues from his students, wife and children when he’s supposed to be an authoritative figure.
Overall i really enjoyed i didn’t feel bored once whilst watching but i wished that the ending wasnt so open 😖 but ig that’s what makes it good
