The film deals with the issue of religious extremism and actual horrors of patriarchy very well, instead of showing an unrealistic escape from reality it showcased what most women to a more or less extreme experienced and still experience and how extreme obsession with a subject like religion can affect the mental state of an individual and create mass hysteria leading to great consequences
The character of doyamoyee is just a 17year old who is confused about what is happening around her and cannot differentiate right from wrong, the people she looked upto failed her and she still put blind trust in them which led to her being completely shattered by the end of the film
Uma's father was just a crazy old man whose sons did not have the courage to stop his madness and this I hold them to be somewhat equally responsible for the crimes as him
Tbh the only person that seemed sane in the family was the older daughter in law but by the end her blaming it all on a 17yo and calling her "rakkhosi" Didn't help her case
The film even though it kind of leaves some things unanswered feels like a full circle moment rounding up the story very well and showcasing it's themes to good abilities
Not to mention the aesthetics, backdrops and music are phenomenal especially as someone who loves certain folk music
The only thing I didn't like was how they spend too much time on some cinematic shots where not much happens as it gets irritating, also I think the old man (uma's dad)kinda acted like a creep throughout which I'm not sure if they were tryna come off like that and the child actor who acts as khoka doesn't do that well but it's only the 60s so perhaps I should not expect that much
Overall this is a phenomenal film which most should experience as it deals with the subject matter with grace and sensitivity
Thanks :3
