Bugonia
Bugonia is an absurdist comedy in essence but aptly covers some very real issues faced by the often overlooked low income individuals of the world.
The main character Teddy is the ultimate form of an incel, beaten down his whole life by various circumstances (sexual abuse, no father figure, addict mom, no money), circumstances that he felt were out of his control, he's now an adult filled with rage with no logical place to aim it. So he invents a villain, creates a cause to fight for, establishes himself as a hero to give himself purpose, to feel more than the nothing that he feels society has dubbed him to be. He also tows along his soft hearted cousin who is clearly developmentally challenged, the cousin though lacking in intelligence can see that his cousin is a bit insane, but for the sheer love of his family he sticks by his side.
There are a lot of funny moments in this, and all of the acting performances are great even from Stavros being the small town, rapey cop. There are also a lot of very dark, very tense moments here. We are shown the corruption of power when given to those without, we're shown the chaotic nature of emotions left unchecked, we're shown a struggle between the haves and the have nots. A great movie, a must watch and at this point I'm convinced Lanthimos can do no wrong.
