The Conjuring
The Conjuring has become a bit of a modern day classic when it comes to horror movies, and it is still a enjoyable movie but it seems to have lost some of its luster. It might be because it's my second watch, it might be because horror a lot of the time can feel formulaic, or it might be because the horror genre has evolved a bit since 2013. In any case, the movie didn't really succeed to bring any scares my way, but I still enjoyed it, just not as much as I'd hoped I still would.
The Warren family feel like scam artists in the film, which might be intentional, but the husband just comes off as a snakeoil salesman even though in the movie they're legitimate, they just feeeeel like phonies.
The story itself is nothing too special either, just buster family helps other family in a haunted house, introduces some satanic doll and bam, they've got a 10 movie Conjuring universe.
I'll still give the movie it's flowers based primarily on my first watch of it, and I'm gonna say it's mostly due to my second viewing that it wasn't as impactful. Still worth the watch, and if you're hard up on horrors to watch this universe delivers plenty to choose from.
