Hot Fuzz
YES, it took me 20 days to log this. In those 20 days I contemplated between 4.5 and 5 stars. A decision I don't take lightly, however I am proud to say that Hot Fuzz is INDEED 5 stars. No shade to Shaun of the Dead but the humor/gags work so much better here. The buddy cop dynamic between Simon Pegg and Nick frost is absolutely the heart of this film. The poking fun of tropes, the clever writing, and that action-packed final act. It's grand, and its ambitious as fuck but...........it works.
As I mentioned, Nick Frost and Simon Pegg are the heart of the is film and while yes they were a joy to watch in Shaun of The Dead—their chemistry evolves here as you can watch the friendship between Pegg's EXTREMELY-competent Nicholas Angel and Frost's drunk Danny Butterman grow throughout the film. Not to go on a tangent, but it was cool to see Timothy Dalton here since I last saw him on Doom Patrol (I am aware I am one of the five people to see that show but it was a pleasant surprise to see the least). Tangent aside, every side character here is great, with Mr. Skinner having some of the best line deliveries throughout. Hot Fuzz is a film I will DEFINITELY rewatch and theres definitely comfort film potential in ts film.
