Beautiful Boy
“When I discovered drugs, my world went from black and white to technicolor. I can never give that up.”
This film is heartbreaking. I honestly don’t even know what to say about this movie. Just—man, it’s painful to watch that amount of suffering from another human being. Every once in a while throughout the movie, they would show a flashback from when Nic was a kid, and you just couldn’t help but smile. It was so joyful and amazing to see Nic and the dad smile together. And then it cuts back to main day, and your heart is just shredding. For those 20 min in the movie when Nic is clean, you can’t feel anything but hope. You just hoped it was permanent, and you just hoped the happiness he felt in those moments lasted a lifetime. And then you see him fall back to the drugs, and it was just heart-shattering. Him begging for help and his father not being able to help him, no matter how much it breaks him. So depressing.> On a technical standpoint, this movie is the most gorgeously shot movie I’ve ever seen. Every single frame was perfect. The shots were creative and captivating. This movie doesn’t have the most dialogue ever, and so they really relied on the music throughout the movie, and it worked perfectly. The music was genuinely phenomenal in helping you feel every emotion that was being portrayed.> The acting in this movie is also incredible. I’ve never seen anything that stars Steve Carell before—only clips from The Office—but seeing him play this serious and emotional character to this degree is so unbelievably impressive. This movie is his magnum opus.> Now, this may not be my favorite Timothée Chalamet movie, but this is my favorite performance from him. Every time he was on screen, you felt every emotion he was portraying. This man is the greatest actor of our generation. If you haven’t seen this movie, do yourself the favor and watch it. Monumental achievement this movie is from everyone involved.
