Before Sunrise
*“Say goodbye: goodbye, au revoir, later.”
*
This movie is the culmination of optimism.
This movie is so wholesome. From start to finish, almost every moment is just perfect. The perfect night, with the perfect date, in a perfect city.> The vibes are immaculate here. Both leads killed it, but what Ethan Hawke was doing was something special. I wouldn’t say he carried every scene, but he is what made this movie as fun as it was.> I will say that at about the hour mark, I was losing interest fast. I felt that in the middle, some of the conversations didn’t have any substance, felt like a waste of time, or were simply uninteresting.> However, all the big moments made up for those parts that made the movie drag. Their first interaction, the cellphone scene, the listening booth, their first kiss, them laying in the grass, and finally their goodbye—all of those moments were just so perfect that, in some way, shape, or form, they made up for the weaker ones.> Even with those awesome scenes, the movie did drag a little for me. I think an hour and 20 minutes would be this movie’s sweet spot. Cut out some useless conversations and we’d be there. I found myself checking how much longer was left quite consistently.> The cinematography was nothing to write home about, and the score was fine—just fairly unmemorable. The dialogue was good 90% of the time. Other than that, I had a great time with this.I am excited for the sunset.
