Nuremberg
“Just because a man is your ally doesn’t mean he’s on your side.”
What an extraordinarily phenomenal film. I plan on getting a PhD in history, so I naturally gravitate toward historical movies. This one is fantastic.
First off, the acting is incredible. Rami Malek and Russell Crowe were perfect, and they carried the gravity of this film exactly the way it needed.> One thing that’s always bothered me about movies featuring Nazis is how often they’re portrayed as devils. You should never demonize another human being. People do that to make what they did easier to swallow—but it shouldn’t be easy to swallow. These were real humans who committed real, violent acts against other real humans. Don’t turn them into devils just to make it easier on your conscience. This movie did a good job of presenting them as human, which is how it should be.> My only issue with this movie is the comedy. There shouldn’t have been a single joke in the entire film. Every time a joke made the audience laugh, it felt distasteful and unnecessary. This is a solemn movie—keep it that way. You can’t show me footage of the Holocaust, with 500+ bodies being thrown into a ditch, and then crack a joke in the next scene. It was honestly pretty disgusting.> The scene where Rami tells Russell that he knew what was happening the entire time was incredibly powerful. That entire argument really made the film for me. Watch it and you’ll know exactly which scene I’m talking about. This movie will stick with you, as it will stick with me. It is a very important film.
