Inside Out
Pixar may be my favorite film studio. They always come out with these amazing films, that always make me feel great. Inside Out has all of the best qualities of Pixar in one film, and that’s what I love about it. It gives me that warm and fuzzy feeling I get from feel-good films, while also balancing that with actual substance that makes the film truly good. It’s honestly a perfect film, and I have no excuse to give this anything but a 5 stars.
The film follows an eleven year-old girl named Riley (Kaitlyn Dias) who was born and raised in Minnesota, and adores her hometown. But her life is turned upside down when her and her parents move to San Francisco. The emotions in her head, consisting of Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Bill Hader), and Disgust (Mindy Kaling), try to help her navigate through this new change. But during a strange malfunction, Sadness and Joy are swept into the outer reaches of Riley’s mind, leaving Fear, Disgust, and Anger to run the headquarters.
Everyone at Pixar is honestly a genius. They can make films that can be enjoyed by people of any ages for different reasons. Depending on one’s level of maturity, they will enjoy these films for different reasons. Inside Out really exemplifies that well, and it is definitely one of Pixar’s best.
The animation is stunning, and the scenery is so fun and vibrant. I love how they designed the emotions. Each one’s appearance perfectly represents who they are and what they stand for, and that was just a fantastic touch. The entire cast gave great performances.
Kaitlyn Dias, who voiced Riley was especially great. She actually did a fantastic job, and I would really like to see her in more stuff, whether it be an animated film or not. Each and every character was great as well. They all had their own flaws, and weren’t just portrayed as good or bad. They all had great qualities as well as not so great qualities. Even Joy, the epitome of happiness and joyfulness wasn’t portrayed as a perfect beam of sunshine. Yes, she was a beam of sunshine, but they definitely made it clear that she has her flaws, as does everyone. That is another great thing that it seems like Pixar does in all of their films.
I honestly have no complaints for this film. It’s definitely one of the best animated films out there, and it’s a masterpiece. The animation is filled with spectacularly vibrant colors that just pop out at you, and really also go hand-in-hand with how happy and upbeat the themes of this film are.
If you’re looking for a comfort movie, and you just want to escape into a nice world of happiness for an hour and a half, then I would strongly recommend Inside Out. Not only is it phenomenal in and of itself, but it makes you feel really happy. It’s definitely one of the greatest feel-good films.
