Targets
On the heels of The Last Picture Show, Paramount wanted to cash in on a PG re-edit of Bogdanovich’s overlooked debut, Targets. The trailer made for the re-release completely validates the message made in this film. I don’t recommend watching the trailer unless you’ve seen the film, but its irony is impossible to ignore. The trailer portrays the film as
an ultraviolet thriller in order to market it to the masses. In reality, Targets is aware of its extreme violence and cleverly spins its exploitation into a thoughtful examination of growing violence in Hollywood and America.
