Okja

When I first watched this a few years ago, it absolutely floored me and immediately became one of my favorite movies ever. In the years since, it felt like every time I saw this film discussed online, the sentiment was "It's fine but probably Bong's worst". While it didn't change my opinion on the film and I still thought it was incredible, I did start to doubt that maybe it wasn’t as good as I remembered, and I started to think that maybe there was a chance that it wouldn't hold up as much for me on a revisit. Well, rewatching it now, I'm so fucking glad to say that not only does it hold up for me as a masterpiece and my favorite Bong Joon-ho film, but I think I love it even more than I did initially and it is probably in my top 5 favorite films ever. I love this fucking movie as much as one possibly could. Makes me smile and laugh, shatters my heart and makes me uncontrollably sob, then puts it back together and makes me smile again. This is what I want cinema to be. This was made for me specifically, and I will be Okja's #1 defender until the day that I die. I love you Bong Joon-ho.
