Poor Things

“It’s all very interesting, what is happening.” So many incredible quotes and moments stuck out to me after not watching this in over a year, but that line and Willem Dafoe’s performance as Godwin Baxter really stuck out to me. And returning to this made me realize that Emma Stone as Bella Baxter might just be the best film performance I’ve ever seen and one of my favorite characters ever, in addition to Jerskin Fendrix’s score being possibly my favorite film score ever, and Robbie Ryan’s cinematography being some of my favorite ever, and the production/costume design being my favorite ever, and Tony McNamara’s brilliantly written script being amongst my favorite ever, and so on and so forth, etc, etc. Lanthimos is just a master at balancing tone and worldbuilding, and like Wes Anderson, he has a unique ability to find and observe strange specificities and truths about humanity within his bizarre and heightened storytelling.  I’m so excited for Bugonia.
