Solaris
Among science fiction films, this one holds a special place for me. Its philosophical structure and the way it portrays humanity's helplessness in the face of the unknown are truly remarkable. Since I had already read the novel of the same name written by Stanisław Lem before watching the film, it felt a bit slow to me-but it is definitely worth watching, as it is a Tarkovsky production.
Quote from the novel:
I am not speaking of a God created by human innocence, nor of a God created by humans at all. I am speaking of a God whose very essence is imperfection. A God with limited knowledge and limited power; one who misjudges the future of His own creations, who can be horrified by the very events He has shaped. A God who constantly attempts things beyond His strength, and only belatedly realizes that they surpass Him-a flawed God. A God who can make clocks, but cannot create the time they measure. This God designed systems or mechanisms meant to serve specific purposes, yet these systems have exceeded those purposes, betraying their original intent. It is not an infinity born of His power, but rather an infinity born of His
boundless defeat.
