Lost in Translation
iiiii loved this film. so much. as expected of sofia coppola the atmosphere, the music, and everything else was perfect. the differences (and similarities) between the two characters lives and how their relationship is based entirely on that lonely sort of longing is so lovely. a connection like that wouldn’t work longtime regardless, which is why the ending is perfect as well. they both have separate lives, separate pasts and futures, and yet through the short amount of time they had together in the present they could influence one another. the bright lights of japan’s city scene contrasted the themes of this film wonderfully. i think i watched this movie at a perfect time of my life, since i was able to see myself in both characters. -0.10 points for the joke on philosophy degrees not making you any money because i refuse to accept it.
