don't know what caused it but i have been wanting to rewatch this for a few weeks now... definitely enjoyed it a little less than when i originally saw it but still a fine movie leave it to sorkin to end a sports movie with two big monologue scenes talking about what baseball really means instead of action lmao also hoffman is SEVERELY underused but always a joy to have on screen 20 game streak is def the best part and it's obvious why

honestly very interesting to watch this with disclosure day on the mind... obviously it's an adaptation but easily can see it as more pessimistic take also with the clear post-9/11 coloring (jimmy steve, sorry, robbie and his incessant need to join the military and "do something"... won't get into the big plot hole of how tf he made it to boston) cruise and fanning are AMAZING together, no shock there... love ray's deadbeat-ness and rachel going full scream queen at every moment some amazing and haunting shots throughout the whole thing, the clothes falling from the sky in the forest at night being one that sticks out in my mind. also, love the alien/tripod designs a lot... from sound to visual. i feel like spielberg loves a bow wrapped ending for the most part, like how tf is the family there unscathed at their boston brownstone?? boston chosen land??? super eerie and fun i can see now why my parents did NOT let me see this as a kid (admittedly i was 13 but i know my ass would've been traumatized)

i imagine aaron sorkin writing this screenplay (and play) like that one clip of alyssa edwards on drag race gagging herself with what she’s writing anyways like obviously i knew this was gonna be an acting masterclass but i genuinely had to pause a few minutes into nicholson’s first scene bc damn his presence, his command of the role… we aren’t getting actors like that anymore also like, i know i’m a cruisehead down but getting tom at that exact right moment in his career when he’s legit so perfect for his role— the universe really aligned for this one even with aaron’s corny boots moments, still a++ from me

big stevie's still got it (duh) saw on 70mm and it truly looked GORGEOUS on film. never get tired of how spielberg blocks and shoots and uses light. honestly best john williams score i've heard in a minute too. emily blunt really sells it and and my fav josh o'connor was fantastic as well. whoever on twitter said that shymalan fans would really dig this was so right... with the state of the world and the way everyone really defaults towards cynicism these days makes me welcome a healthy dose of hopium every now and again. there really is nothing like movie magic!
