This movie is just weird. Which I guess is kind of the point. But still. It seemed painfully obvious she was going to turn out to be the alien and the “conspiracy theorist” happened to be right all along. The whole commentary about how “rich people suck and they’re killing nature” is also very overplayed in this. We get it. I didn’t love the eerie-ness mixed with the attempted satirical comedy. With all this being said Plemmons and Stone gave phenomenal performances which doesn’t take away from this disappointing film.

This film is just a vibe. It’s a really visually appealing movie. The animation is solid and the cast is pretty impressive. Kid Cudi’s soundtrack was also so great for this and fits so well into the film. Mostly because he also did the story for it. The plot is nothing profound but it gets the job done. I loved Ty Dolla $ign’s character and was pleasantly surprised to hear Chalamet’s voice in this. It’s truly a beautiful film and one I connected to a lot. I appreciate the subtle references and nods to pop culture especially the KAWS and Off-White placements. A great tribute to Virgil as well. Overall would definitely watch again. You can tell this was a passion project from a very talented artist.

YOU HAVE TO MAKE THE MONEY TO BUY A TICKET. What a performance from Jake Gyllenhaal. Portraying an absolutely eerie and bone chilling sociopath in outstanding fashion. The film gives great insight into the realm of local news and the amount of exploitation as well as corruption there is behind it. The ending ties the whole film together and makes the themes of the film become so surreal in that the world truly puts profits over empathy. I’m a huge fan of this film and the world it takes you into that otherwise you typically wouldn’t know a lot about. Bloom orchestrating Ricks death really brought everything together for me and helped me realize how great this film is.

Who cares the plot is silly and unoriginal? COOL CARS! An iconic film that is carried by the stunts and dope ass cars. The acting is solid and the egregious Corona ad placement is definitely something. The film is very visually appealing as well aa exciting. Definitely had a profound effect on so many people of my generation and our love for cars. Lines like “to some people that’s more important” and living your life “a quarter mile at a time” will never cease to be iconic. A bit out there in terms of the plot but nonetheless a great start to franchise that eventually runs out of gas and goes downhill.
