Not everything needs a sequel. Drained of its twists and games, “Ready or Not: Here I Come” flounders and underwhelms its way into your heart. Plot is so ridiculous and tinfoil-hat it’s virtually impossible to play along. Samara and Kathryn had zero chemistry; it felt like they couldn’t wait for their scenes together to end at times. Managed to have some fun with the chasing, I guess if honesty is the name of the game. But so forgettable and such a crappy ending I can’t tell you anyone’s names in the next five minutes. Except you, Elijah Wood: please host some weird mystery murder game on tv.

Didn’t grow up watching the show. Tried to appreciate the documentary since it’s a flagship Disney Channel program. But this format was weird. Even weirder it’s not even an hour. Why didn’t the rest of the cast wanna come do this?

“Project Hail Mary” is spectacular in scale, story and emotion. The emptiness and loneliness of the seemingly infinite space is captured so well. Ryan Gosling turns in the best performance of his career as he balances joy and fear at the same time. Staring at the black sea of space and stars brought me back to being a kid wondering what’s up there and if there’s life. You’re not going to find a better sidekick this year (maybe ever) than Rocky, our weird and beloved alien. Daniel Pemberton’s score perfectly sums up the tone of the movie, keeping it lighthearted and not a siloed catastrophe despite the global circumstances. Part of me wishes there was more science even though there was a lot and the book covered so much more, but oh well. It works. In fact, it works so well in a few years it’ll become the next E.T. or Jurassic Park. That type of blockbuster that opens a kid’s eyes about the wonders of space and extraterrestrials. Absolutely my favorite movie of the year so far.
