Sentimental Value
The more I think about this film, the more metaphorical and meta it gets in the best possible way. Just think about the shot with Gustav visiting Michael, and he realizes THIS is what I become, THIS is what's in store for me, and what draws near, and yet no words are spoken outside plain dialogue, and all captured in Stellan Skarsgard just literally taking it all in so beautifully.
I enjoyed the blend of acting and the actor acting "acting" and how Trier purposefully blends the two and cuts between scenes to show the linkage between the family and its shared scars and trauma which transcend scene and character in more ways than one (see what I did there)
