Lurker
this film is the maximalist expression of someone who thinks art is specifically made for them. that special connection only art can create where you want to share it with everyone and express to the creator just how much it means to you.
matthew was an asshole but i could tell everyone in my audience still had a sliver of empathy because to the smallest degree that feeling is still a bit relatable. alex russel does an incredible balancing act between drama comedy and razor sharp tension. both actors theo and archie give incredibly nuanced performances. zach fox only had a bit of screen time but stole every scene he was in.
the cinematography did exactly what it was supposed to do. put the audience in a feeling of claustrophobic awkwardness achieved through a shaky film camera that would hold and build tension through the unsettling extreme close ups. alex russel wrote and directed the hell out of this and is a very high contender for the best directorial debut i’ve ever seen. i will be seated night one for whatever he has next.
