The Departed

It’s so hard to put my thoughts together for this film. This is my rewatch in years for this and while I thought it was fantastic on my first listen, there’s so many details that my ignorant youthful mind didn’t notice on my first listen. The genuinely intelligent protagonists both trying as hard as possible to dig themselves out of the holes that they’re in whilst making the other hole deeper. Plus, you add an all time Jack Nicholson performance on top of that. The parallels to rats throughout the entire movies were absolutely insane. The final shot was such a full circle moment. Not only for the movie but for Scorsese. DiCaprio has one of his best performances ever like it’s just mind blowing how amazing he is. But I’m not acting like Matt Damon didn’t hold his own either this is easily his best performance. He plays just a slappable character but the entire time (apart from the citizens mishap) he makes the best move and always leans towards the winning side like Costello having connections with the feds. I need to rewatch Flower Moon but this might be scorseses best of what I’ve seen. Easiest 10/10 of my life (I managed to do all this without mentioning the elevator scene by the way)
