a totally absurd technicolor fever dream. full of charm, sticks the landing on basically every joke, and is boldly ready to do some weird shit. lakeith stanfield is hilarious. super campy too, love the dream sequences and the mall scene. you could give me 100 tries and I never could have guessed what was gonna happen in this movie. stupidly fun, go see this and boots riley will personally thank you

they unironically hit a “michael jackson will return in” at the end of this damn movie anyways this movie is really well cast and the choreography is strong. jaafar jackson is a perfect michael and colman domingo is pretty good too. otherwise…? the pacing of this movie is breakneck and none of the other characters get enough time to make me care about them. this movie *really* relies on you to know who Michael Jackson is, and fortunately, most people do! the music is great obviously, but overall? kinda just fine. to be continued in michael jackson back 2 bad or something

oh my god I love this movie. wong kar wai you are a genius. stylish and slow, no shot feels wasted and no line feels unnecessary. brilliantly directed. tinted with such profound longing and charm. Tony Leung is (naturally) incredible. something really beautiful about how unapologetically messy this story is. in the airport of life, who knows where you go after missing a connection? bravo

no ship so great to weather the storm of time quite like the persistence of human memory. hauntingly filmed and pretty well acted. veeeery atmospheric. a weird dream sequence or two, but then again so is most of this film. shooting on film really helps give the movie the feeling of age it chases so hard, like flipping through an old scrapbook. moral of the story? don’t kill yourself, go fishing.
