Adolescence
An incredibly shot and acted piece of TV. I want to gush about the script and performances and camerawork but to be honest it just makes me incredibly depressed how real this is. And I hope parents and teachers and especially young men will see this and it’ll open their fucking eyes.
For being neglectful and not monitoring what they do. Masculinity is horrible and consumes all men. It’s about pride and power and you can overcome that toxicity. But I don’t think we should go straight to blaming the parents of the boys and start by education both sides. Blaming people like the Tate brothers does nothing and only fuels the misogynistic monster. If we berate and talk down to these teenage boys it’ll just result in more violence and pain. Male loneliness is painfully real and with incel culture at an all time high (displayed expertly in this piece) it’s personally terrifying
It’s so easy to get annoyed or talk down to boys like this. Blaming their age or ignorance but this is a clear societal issue that needs fixing.
The acting was obviously fantastic Stephen Graham never fails to bring it. And in episode 4 especially he brings such a vulnerability to his role, and Owen Cooper holy shit what a performance from someone so young episode 3 especially
But yeah this was long and winded and I had a lot of thoughts but overall thought it was a very good thought piece
