Wonder Man
The Road To Avengers Doomsday #12
What a pleasant surprise. I’ll be the first to admit that I really didn’t go into this with much expectation. Hadn’t really seen it marketed a lot and I struggled to see how it was going to be relevant to the MCU. After watching the entire series though, I can safely say that my worries have been averted. It feels so singular in the MCU and it is exactly what this franchise needs right now. One of the biggest problems this franchise has had is that a large majority of things can feel very similar but this has a completely different identity. It forgoes big action set pieces and stereotypical plot structure and rather shows a satirical look at Hollywood and the very industry that Marvel has dominated for years. It’s so refreshing to have a single episode structure whilst having an overarching story that is incredibly engaging. It also helps that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley are both fantastic here. Their dynamic is brilliant and the series really makes you care for their relationship. Whether we ever see them both again in the MCU is debatable, but I’d love to see a second series one day. Hopefully the MCU can learn from this in the future!!!
