The Creator
Wow man! I’m not too sure where to start tbh, I cannot believe this film isn’t getting that much love and can’t grasp why people are feeling so mediocre about it. Not only does this film have immaculate visuals, but also has some of the best emotional moments of any film I’ve seen this year. Brilliant performances, a heartbreaking score and outstanding world building with a perfect fitting tone, this film gripped me from the moment it started. I’ve been seeing people say that it doesn’t take enough time to flesh out the characters, which I don’t agree with despite admitting that this film probably would’ve benefited from a longer run time. I can see some minor issues with the script and didn’t care entirely for the villain, but that still doesn’t take away from how I felt when watching this. I loved the character designs and the realism of the world, but most of all I just appreciated the bond between the two main characters. The ending was genuinely perfect and the acting was phenomenal, especially from Madeleine Yuna Voyles, who I can see going on to brighter things in the future for sure. The Creator has to be in my favourites of the year conversation, I loved every minute of it.
Overall, this film is probably the biggest surprise of the year for me and I think I’m quite a bit higher on it than everyone else, but it just really worked for me.
