May December
Originally gave this a 4.5, but now about a week out from seeing it, I realize I don’t know what else I’d want from this. It may be the best movie of the year. Layers of perversion and deceit give way to a profound sadness, and soon, the facade crumbles, leaving everyone to face the truths that they’ve tried so hard to ignore. Comfortably my favorite Todd Haynes.
Also, as good as Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman are in this, it’s not the same movie without Charles Melton. Your heart shatters for him.
