**This film perfectly depicts the fear I have over the "opposites attract trope" ** From the start, they grew up in vastly different households. Cindy lived in a dysfunctional home where the father couldn't control his temper meanwhile Dean was in a broken home where one parent left. Cindy strived and was motivated because of the potential she saw while Dean was contented with his job as long as it keeps bills paid. Later on this is what kills their marriage... Deans look on "the life" is just being a good husband and father and nothing more. Thats why he was verbal on his love for her but it never showed anywhere else. He just wanted his family to stay and make sure no one abandons one another. Cindy on the other hand couldnt stand the wasted potential they all had. She wanted more, not just for them, but for him too. She wanted him to not become the angry man that she had to tolerate around growing up. They both knew what it felt like to live in a house that doesn't feel like a home but in the end they became a reflection of eachothers childhood traumas.

I don't know what to say after that. I am crying ??? Distraught ???? Appalled ???? This film is truly one of the most complex visually and story wise. I mean I felt like I've been brought along with them in their train of madness and hallucinations. To add on, Ryan Gosling. This has to be one of his most underrated roles because none of the other actors captivated and really got me to connect with their characters unlike his. Despite the complexities Henry has Ryan Gosling has shown them in ways that almost seem easy to understand. Overall tho, the transition and like scenes were really good but kinda got too much at times. I understand this really might not be everyones cup of tea but I truly think this film is the type that shouldn't be fully understood. What makes it so "uncomplete" or " messy" is a story in itself.

If I had a penny for everytime ryan gosling had to play a stuntman with an iconic jacket who had to go thru great (illegal) lengths, fight multiple criminals, and almost die just for the safety of the love of their lives. I'd have 2 which isn't much but is weird it happened twice
