Guys I think Ridley Scott liked Hong Kong and fog.

"and dat's dat"

Brilliant, wild, and dripping with the strong Americana style of the time, Boogie Nights really showcases PTA's love of the 70's. While catching on itself a little in the second arc the film doesn't take long to find it's feet again, resulting in an almost perfectly utilised runtime that doesn't feel like a slog. Not only this but the film faces it's themes head on, in full frontal detail, which helps to really get the directors message across strongly and obviously. Not only this, but as the film plays the story straight it immerses you in it's world and it's characters lives, and makes for a thoroughly gripping viewing. Not only is the direction and the atmosphere immaculate, but so are the performances and allow you to deeply care for the characters. Mark Wahlberg for example: a deeply evil man who unfortunately gives an amazing performance as the lead character. Overall a very entertaining film that wears it's amateurism on its sleeve for better or for worse, and an excellent debut for one of the best directors in the modern age.
