Interstellar
Honestly there’s no way to watch Interstellar and not end up in full emotional shock
Like, you finish it and you can only stare at the ceiling like, “what even are we? what is time? what is love?” it’s one of those films you don’t just watch but you feel it
From the very first second, the atmosphere Christopher Nolan creates is brutal. And not brutal like “oh cool”, BRUTAL like you actually feel the loneliness, the hope, the sadness, and the excitement all at once. Like, the world is already falling apart and the weight of saving humanity falls on regular people, not superheroes. That hits hard. It reminds you that in the end, we’re humans fighting for love not for power, not for money, but just to stay together.
Matthew McConaughey brings such a heavy emotional weight to Cooper, his character, that you literally hurt with him. Like, that scene where he watches the videos of his kids growing up while he’s trapped on another planet… NOOO, that scene is just a full emotional explosion. He’s not acting the tears, he’s living them.
Anne Hathaway is also out of control amazing.
Her character, Dr. Brand, is this mix of super cold science and a heart that beats louder than she’s willing to admit. Her monologue about love being a force that transcends time and space? One of the most beautiful moments in the whole movie. And honestly, it’s crazy how they make a film about quantum physics also feel like a love letter.
Christopher Nolan choreographs every single shot. Every camera movement, every silence, every cut has a purpose. When you’re seeing the planets or the black hole, you literally feel the weight of time sitting on your chest,I’m not a big fan of him as a person lol🙃but that man knows how to direct a film!
Also, the script is written so smartly it challenges you to think but never lets you go emotionally. Like, it’s not one of those ultra technical movies that bore you with numbers and theories.
Visually, it’s a masterpiece too.
Hoyte van Hoytema’s cinematography gives it this dusty, infinite kind of vibe that completely pulls you into the story. Those wide shots of space make you feel so small, but also like you’re part of something so much bigger👍🏻
I think it’s Nolan saying, *“yeah, humanity makes mistakes, yeah, we mess up our world but we also love, we also fight, we also dream.”
