"انا قرفان مني زي ما انت قرفان مني زي ما انا قرفان منك"
ouch.
i read the synopsis, saw that it starred Ahmed Al Fishawy, and immediately thought there couldn't have been a better choice for this role. right then, i knew i was about to watch something special and i wasn't wrong.
i've rarely seen an arabic film explore religious guilt and unsolved childhood trauma with this much honesty and sensitivity; it never feels like it's trying to simplify, instead, it lets them coexist in a way that's painfully human. every emotional conflict feels earned and every moment of silence says as much as the dialogue.
El Fishawy delivers one of the strongest performances i've seen of him, carrying the weight of a man torn between faith, identity, and parts of himself he's spent years trying to bury.
they did an incredible job. thoughtful, emotionally devastating, and one of the most compelling arabic films i've watched in a long time.
