The Master
It’s really about love, as Freddie tries to adapt to this new world after fighting in WW2 he can’t be a regular person no more. As funny his drive for sex and alcohol might be in the beginning it becomes sad over the course of the movie as that was his only sense of pleasure/love during war leading him into the man he is now. Freddie finds this cult and their leader Lancaster Dodd, they both seem to need each other. Freddie needs Lancaster as he needs a master to follow in this new world and Lancaster feels it’s his duty to help and fix Freddie and free him from his past. But Freddie will soon realize that all this torture and lies can’t help him change and has to accept his past.
Joaquin Phoenix is turning into one of my favorite actors right now every performance I see I just can’t get enough. Joaquin in this is amazing and it’s crazy how he can become these characters from movie to movie
