Nuremberg
I think it’s a mark of good filmmaking to be able to build sympathy or at least understanding for a person such as Hermann Göring. There were times in the film where he made seemingly valid points in relation to war and moral superiority, however I think that this is all overshadowed by the fact that he was an evil and twisted person that committed crimes against humanity, that of which were of the most egregious in terms of both severity and scale. I appreciate the films work and my mums recommendation of Hannah Arendt’s books in portraying the evil as banal and regular rather then the too often perception of it being outlandishly special or unique. It was certainly unique in scale and severity but the hatred and prejudice itself is not only inherent but rather repetitive as well hence the concluding warning and connection to modern day politics and culture. It is not correct to use such logic to excuse or lessen the wrong that occurred but rather to suggest that such wrongs are able to be repeated and continued lest we stop putting them on some distant pedestal of evil and instead accept them for the too often ordinary and domestic threat that they pose.
Idk good movie overall but like could’ve dealt with some serious topics in a more serious way, some parts and areas were a bit underdeveloped and ludicrous but I can also get that it’s hard when it’s such a loaded film dealing with such intense topics. Important and good film nevertheless.
