Warfare
One of the most captivating and tense modern war films I’ve seen. A single scene played out in every minute and painstaking detail. It’s rather apolitical in leaving out either government yet the focus remains on humanising the American perspective. Even the bureaucracy of the chain of command is almost entirely neglected by Mendoza and Garland, instead their work solely concentrates among the experience of a single few as they enter the papery walls that soon threaten to become their rubbled coffin. It’s a shorter film at around 90 minutes however it’s drawn out pacing and mix of action and quiet really pull you in among the experience of the soldiers as they face both unassuming boredom and a rampage of death, destruction and misery. Overall an incredible film, insane sound design, great storytelling snd emotive cinematography.
