"I Love you Tommy. It's ok"
I did not expect such vulnerability and struggle. The narrative is truly heartbreaking and the character development and acting completely take a toll on you. I was expecting the usual violence and aggression to go with the fighting and while there was of course that it came from a background of hurt, abuse, trauma and brokenness that wears heavy on me. I empathise with the characters and I see their hurt, they are the sum of a life of pain. They need a hug from a family that doesn't exist. They are strong because they have to be. We see the world stomp down on their compassion and gentleness and force such brutality and loneliness. It has cliches and it has predictability and this would usually be a problem, but its impassioned heartbreak and emotional complexity really makes this film leave a mark. It's both brutally and beautifully devastating.
