“I think I was a dog in a past life. In fact I know I was. It's why they like me so much.” Holy shit. Them Safdie Bros. know how to make a fucking film. The characterisation of Connie and the performance delivered from Robert Pattinson are just spellbinding - you can literally do nothing but sit in awe at how far this ‘man’ will go to manipulate and use all those people around him and still claim that he is liked and appreciated, a better man than the people he leaches off and uses. Benny Safdie choosing to play Nick was also a brilliant decision - in the first scene of the movie, he shows how exceptionally talented he is - conveying actual innocence and uncertainty; I might be mistaken but i am pretty sure that the Safdie brothers did look for an actual person with learning difficulties to play the part but decided ultimately that it would be “easier” to not cast someone. The score and cinematography go hand in hand at making you feel like you’re on acid, drenched in neon colours and flashing lights - great fucking combination of talent and execution
