16, she/her, love horror films i try to like all my mutuals reviews, love you guys! samara weaving & shabana azeez 4lyfe. earlier reviews were kinda bad, dont scroll too far haha.

*“goodness gracious, ikaw yung nag-shoplift!”* blatant colorism + racism aside; vice ganda is great at acting out 4 different characters and the humor is alright. honestly ive got nothing to say about this because i really think these types of films are the ones you have to grow up with to get. though i did appreciate the class commentary in this story— mark and pannying moves to the city, showing how farming and agriculture is not supported by our own government despite it being one of the main sources of exports of the philippines, therefore exploiting our farmers. despite the fact they hold up our economy on their back, their healthcare is horrible and the pay is even worse. im not sure if making peter and girlie the heteronormative pair out of the four siblings, while they are upper class was on purpose— but it does highlight their privilege in comparison to peter and pannying. even if the richness of peter and girlie is a tool used as a way to laugh at those archetypes, it does really show how social class affects ones perceptions and behaviors (even if it may be hyperbole). does anything i wrote even make sense? probably not, but this movie isnt always about sense anyways haha.

watched the extended cut. i wish me and my friends watched the shorter version because perhaps the story wouldnt be as confusing but nonetheless this was enjoyable! as another review said, not “shit your pants” scary though. ill be honest i laughed a lot throughout this film due to the facial expressions of mr kobayashi and mr hori, seriously i was belly laughing whenever mr kobayashi got a door slammed in his face 😭… he was just so pissed off. i cant even begin to imagine the budget for this though, there were probably 20 sets and maybe a thousand actors for this film alone! extremely impressive and overall a very believable mockumentary. they probably cut it down to an hour for a reason, because as the exposition went on, the tension just slowly disappeared and i was really not anticipating anything anymore. im choosing not to rate this as i feel that i didnt really watch it properly haha. still really enjoyed watching though!

finally rewatched this! there is just so much praise i can give this film, brilliantly acted, creative storytelling, and just a terrifying movie all around! toni collette deserved all the awards for this, i was sympathizing with her, then just completely horrified. ive seen tons of videos about the imagery and symbolism scattered throughout the film (especially the first act) and as much as i tried to catch them all— i most certainly didnt lol. the sound design was great, especially around the end— and im overall just happy i rewatched this today, i am pleasantly spooked! cant even imagine watching this in the cinemas, i would probably shit myself haha

who put horror elements in my epic adaptation??? i genuinely dont think i can write a comprehensive review about this film because it was just so immersive and completely captured me, it felt like i was experiencing it all right in front of me. i was kind of worried about the cast being "all star" due to it maybe distracting from the actual film— but the story telling made me forget that i am in fact looking at tom holland. ive never really been one for epics like this but nolan does a great job in creating this atmosphere of pure engagement, my dad who usually sleeps in the cinema was awake throughout the entire film. this film does trick you though. it draws you in with adrenaline and allows you to believe the bravery and strength of odysseus, only to reveal the true nature of his victory. the suffering and death of innocents that let him climb up to the level of a legend, odysseus betrays not only the gods but also himself in this process. i truly felt like one of the people listening to the bards song of troy up until the very end! really impressive way to wrap the entire story into a beautiful bow. my only real complaint is the costume design, i could tell charlize theron's shawl is polyester haha... whole film makes up for this anyways though! i wish i could write more about this film and its storytelling, but all i can say is go see this for yourself in the cinemas!! just an amazing experience all around.
