Hereditary
Horror doesn't need the Oscars, which are subjective like all art evaluations. Horror thrives on the margins, which diminishes once shiny gold statues are involved. Horror is to cinema what Metal is to music: genres often overlooked by mainstream media and awards but thriving with passionate communities and dedicated fans. "Hereditary" should have been an exception to the rule, especially Toni Collette's performance. The film is more of a family trauma drama until it becomes full-blown horror in the last 20 minutes. It's intense and scary throughout, but it's primarily a family drama first and horror.
