Nosferatu
After the ending, I was surrounded by three questions about it:
Why did she do that?
For her husband?
For her own selfish desire?
Or because she loves Nosferatu?
Then I rewatched the second half again.
And that scene -
"You could never please me as he could"
So my answer is all of'em
Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think so. She definitely loved Thomas.
But love ≠ fulfillment of every part of the psyche.
She was drawn to him because he was the representation of the end of longing itself.
Throughout the film, I realized Thomas loves her so much, but he doesn’t actually see her. And damn, what fascinating writing ,he ignored parts of her that he didn’t understand, but NOSFERATU RECOGNISES IT, UNDERSTANDS IT.
Basically, Nosferatu fulfills the part of her that dreams of annihilation and subtle REDEMPTION.
Sometimes some desires don’t want happiness; they just want to disappear.
Ellen’s character was so damn well written and so complex.
It felt like living in deja vu -
you know, sometimes you’re so tired you don’t want success, love, or answers; you just want everything to stop.
Peak of annihilation.
Damn, this fascinated me.
Love Robert Eggers!!!!!
