Alien

Well damn. This is what every thriller should aspire to be. The way this movie demonstrated complete mastery over mood & atmosphere. Went from chill to wtf is going on to complete edge of my seat stressed at every single character action. The directing was just phenomenal. The way Scott took complete advantage of the claustrophobic setting to set the tension from the beginning and almost drive us deeper and deeper into it until even I felt boxed in; to the point I couldn't stay still in my seat due the uncomfortableness of what was unfolding on my monitor. And I don't want to overlook the storytelling! Even though, the thrill really didn't start to hit until the second half, the team did a great job pacing everything in the first half so that it didn't feel that long. The set up was solid, and Scott's direction brought it home from there; making 50 minutes feel like 1.5-2 hrs. The hype is real, and I'll gladly jump on the bandwagon. Officially earned its spot as one of my favorite sci-fi and horror/thriller films. The $4.12 rental costs on amazon was worth it.
