Moonlight
It's truly inexplicable how fantastic this movie is. What Jenkins and the team accomplished and made me feel watching this is truly something special. All the technical elements of filmmaking (perfectly executed here might I say) coming together to craft a raw, punchy yet deeply intimate story of a boy growing up. And a countless amount of themes & subjects can be analyzed and dissected here, but I feel at the end of the day, it really is just being with this character at these stages and moments in life side by side that makes this a profound film. BarryJenkins is a genius; he crafted one of the greatest films of all time.
Special segment of random thoughts I recorded while watching:
- Juan's character intro is goated. Mahershala Ali's performance was really true powerhouse acting it's all coming back to me
- Janelle Monae.
- That dining room table scene at the end of chapter 1 is something special man. From the acting to how it was shot to the gut punching dialogue. Perfection
- The interaction between Chiron and his mother outside their home in chapter 2.... Perfection
- Them bullies in chapter 2 have my blood boiling yo
- Extremely hard camera work when we are first introduced to Black
- "Lord knows I did not have love for you when you needed. I know that. So you ain't gotta love me" bro...
- That diner sequence... Perfection
- They really nail the final moments of each chapter. GOAT status writing & acting
