Sing Sing
“The jaws of darkness do devour it up. So quick bright things come to confusion.” - Shakespeare, read excellently by Coleman Domingo
This perfectly encapsulates the tension between fleeting joy and persistent suffering, redemption and anger. It is the tone of the movie. What makes this so good is how it walks us through our characters journeys in different ways. One starts in the dark, armored in anger, and slowly steps into the light. Meanwhile, another begins in the light — hopeful — and is forced to reckon with how easily it can be snatched away. Their journeys cross and echo each other, one rising while the other falters, and it’s amazing to watch.
Carried by powerhouse performances too. Everyone should have gotten some hardware, pls allow me to join the club of academy haters for this not getting the recognition it deserved. I wish I caught this one in theaters.
