The Conjuring
The streets were not lying: this movie is terrifying. Literally was clutching anything nearby whenever it was night time. Movie did a fantastic job at building tension and delivering on the big scare. I had multiple physical reactions throughout the movie. But also on a really cool note, the filmmakers were able to take such a simple plot/premise, and keep me engaged (at the edge of my seat type engaged) during the whole time. And at least from what I saw, there was no homage or critique being made to past horror movies or sub-genres; just straight terror. Very very fun time watching.
Like I said, the whole plot was pretty simple, so nothing happened that really surprised me (not talking about the 50 million jump scares). Nonetheless, they knew what this movie was, and executed wonderfully. Can’t believe I was sleep on this one for so long. Gonna go ahead and drop this one into the Golden Films list. Much deserved.
