Sunset Boulevard
One of the greatest films I have ever seen. I believe that Wilder is definitely one of the greatest directors of all time and this masterpiece is proof of it.
This film really keeps you guessing and plays with your own rational thought of what makes sense and what doesn’t. So much so that in parts of the film I struggled to understand whether or not it was her delusion or real life (especially the scene where she is on set and gets asked for autographs). Even though the ending sometimes may seem predictable by the end of it you really begin to question how sure you are. The choices the characters make in this film too are very questionable and completely throw you off (Joe choosing Gloria over Betty).
In spite of its greyscale colour, the film’s mise en scène and cinematography really shines through and enhances the quality of this masterpiece.
So close to perfection that it is hard to not call it perfect.
