After Hours
“I’ll probably be blamed for that.”
I turned this on, not knowing to expect but it ending up being genuinely so good. After Hours has the right amount of awkward humor and stress, keeping you on edge throughout the whole run time.
It was interesting to see how Paul’s night slowly descended into absolute chaos and how every choice he makes descends him even further into his own hell.
To me, despite being directed by Scorsese, After Hours does not remind me of any other Scorsese movies I have watched thus far, even on paper it doesn’t sound like something he’d direct. I think that’s what initially made me slightly more unsure on if I would like it or not. However, that difference ended up being one of the its biggest strengths. Its strange, almost nightmarish vibe with a humours undertone and relentless pacing made it feel unique, and by the end, I was fully invested in Paul’s miserable, spiraling journey through the city.
