Interstellar
First rewatch in years, and I’m shocked at how little I actually remembered outside of the three scenes that live on permanent rotation on 'film bro' TikTok.
Stating the obvious, but this is a massive technical feat. Nolan’s ambition is undeniable, and the set pieces remain truly spectacular. This is an extraordinary piece of cinema and will rightly go down as one of the greatest Sci-Fi films of all time; it’s a genuine masterpiece.
However, the convoluted plot stops it from hitting 'GOAT' status for ME. I have zero interest in trying to wrap my head around the mechanics of relativity or time dilation; it feels like a pointless exercise, and that’s exactly where the film loses me. It’s almost impressive how a movie about a man communicating with his daughter through a 5D space cube can occasionally feel...a little dull.
The ending still manages to land a punch, but while Zimmer's score is iconic, I fear it’s doing about 90% of the heavy lifting during the 'emotional' moments.
