Moonlight
‘ i, don’t know you?’
i SOBBED. oh my god. the only thing i didn’t like about this film was that there wasn’t MORE. i do understand why there wasn’t tho I'm just obsessed. the direction was impeccable. and i swear im always writing the same thing for every good film, i just find it hard to be more descriptive when im so lost for words. but ‘moonlight’ really stood out to me. it was genuinely the perfect coming of age film. and something everyone should watch atleast once. it’s just so beautiful, every scene felt so intimate. from just a glare from across a room to the song on the jukebox, i was constantly on the verge of tears. and near the end, many were shed.
kevin & chiron’s characters were so lovable and the casting was A M A Z I N G. it truly felt like their personalities bled into the next act of the film so effortlessly, despite them being seperate actors and very different ages, it was just so believable and well done. it really was a standout for the film overall. the script of this film also made me fall in love with it, fairly limited but so (for lack of a better word) deep. everything that was said seemed so well thought out by the writers and even though i’m not a poc, it felt so meaningful and it did really resonate with me on a level of empathy/ understanding of poc experiences. sure, it’s a movie and it’s events are definitely hyperbolised but i mean this more so in the sense of how poc’s are expected to be, raised to be and how refreshing it seems to see them break out of those stereotypes. i would love to find more films similar to this one so ill be on a search for sure.
