I think a lot of this film simply went over my head. It confused me by how complex and almost random it was, cutting from one story beat to the next, the acting is great but doesn’t stand out, and it’s the epitome of “fight the system.” The best way I can describe this film is that it’s like watching a 90’s aesthetically dystopian music video, particularly from a punk rock band.

While I do love the cast, this film is just… okay. Sarah Michelle Gellar’s performance as Helen Shivers (particularly her chase sequence in the film) is iconic, as well as the performances of Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr., but beyond that, it’s just an alright film.

Anytime I see Julia Stiles, I simply know I’m going to enjoy the film. Heath Ledger’s performance alongside her is perfectly balanced and makes this film another iconic 90’s movie.

I’ve always found this film fascinating and horrifying at the same time, and that’s part of why found-footage is such a unique genre. The way reality and fiction blend together and leave you unsure what’s real and what’s fake is just so compelling.
