Still Alice
It is the most brutal watch of 2024 by far. Ten years, and this movie doesn’t seem to have aged.
The performances by the family are excellent, with the frontrunner being Julianne Moore. I spent a lot of time on the phone with patients struggling with memory issues, and they would be gracious to have someone with the patience to work with them.
I feel like this story is a reflection of her independence from being stunted by her brain and, especially, from a genetic relationship with an absent father.
Everything is shown rather than told on screen, making you feel more connected to the struggle she tries to hide.
Each character necessary to the core story feels flushed out and allows for real conflict to brew.
Won’t watch again, probably.
