Persona
Meshing things that can exist simultaneously at the same time
Guilt and freedom, terror and tenderness
It feels like the best way to talk about this for me is just throw words at it
It depicts itself the most flawlessly I can think of ever seeing
Everyone who has ever seen this will have understood it
It’s the pinnacle of something
To place what of would be to lay the whole film out exactly how it is here
And leave it there
Untampered
It is the absolute epitome of an experience
But what experience? The film, laid out, exactly how it is
I feel becoming this delirious is only appropriate and it feels so freeing
For a film to completely escape itself encourages my words and thoughts now to be separate from themselves
Whilst simultaneously being the very words they are
This can do everything as it just does and will do as it did
I am so grateful
Personal to all, as you are made within this film, just as you are
It’s now been several days since this watch
I’ve got more to say and it can’t wait until my next watch
This feels so so comfortable
And almost comforting
It doesn’t aim to understand human emotion, and it doesn’t preach anything and things are hardly implied
It just depicts this relationship between these people
And it’s so layered and complex, but always fed to us through an unbiased and empathetic screen
The way we observe the characters and their inner conflicts is through our compassion and how we feel we need to understand
Then through the experimental elements and delivery of the film, our need to understand is carefully washed away as we see they have no need to be understood
Projections and resentment of others and self gradually become one as we are gradually allowed and helped to shift our digestion of the film towards a lack of bias
We are shown a way to observe free of judgement, and we can sit with this feeling
As Personas intertwine, we can feel human emotion as something that can’t be translated,
Ah I got mad
I had so many words here to go but they’ve all left now
I forgot them all
I had it I had it I had exactly what I wanted to say dammit
Maybe this will have to wait until next time
I’ll get it one day
It also made me sad to see a lot of ‘theories’ and stuff surrounding this
I think it really hit me and felt so special because of how it escaped this for me
I didn’t feel like I needed to theorise about what was going on here
It was there for me to not just experience but to really observe
Intrinsically but mainly vicariously through these characters simultaneously examining themselves and another person
Then that gives way to experimental delivery of the story and different scenes and the package of the film as a whole
And this amazing freeing feeling I’m trying to describe in words I’m happy with
I’m a bit annoyed with how this reviews gone
Hopefully something came across well enough
