This one really got me. There's one scene where Adam is telling his dad he loves him while feeling so scared that had me tearing up so badly I could barely contain myself around my roommate. I understand that feeling so greatly, loving someone who you know doesn't have the capacity anymore to love you back, but in that moment, the expression itself is enough. It's not the focal point of the movie, but it's a layer to this that I really enjoyed. This film ties itself together with a cute little bow, Kyle on the surface does seem to not care but after Adam's mental breakdown there's a subtle shift in his attitude that I just absolutely loved. Adam's mother is reminiscent of a similar experience I've had and I really do appreciate how natural Jonathan Levine made each character feel. While I didn't much care for Adam's cheating girlfriend storyline, I also think it was necessary to create change within himself as he grapples with the cancer diagnosis. Also, I really loved Alan and Mitch. It was the perfect way for Adam to recognize his mortality. This was really fucking good and made me cry for no reason.
Totally unrelated but I'm definitely in love with Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Some real shit here and I absolutely adore him in everything I've seen so far.
